Garavan organization is led by enthusiastic, generous and talented people who in response to growing interest conducted a few classes on electronics and aerodynamics in response to children's interest. Spurred on by the success of the program, the organization has expanded their initiative into multiple directions. As of May 10, 2022, this initiative has received the official Non-Government Organization status. The program includes all aspects of theory and practical experimentations in the areas of engineering, technology and science as well as computer programming and languages. Children now are learning from theory to hands on.
Yeghounts Foundation joined forces with Garavan organization to assist in the enhancement of the program and its expansion.
To illustrate the truly inspirational outcome of the program, we want to share a story that happened recently. With the melting snow and increasing rains, the water level in rivers has risen and flash floods have become a dangerous reality. Earlier in the spring, a young man was swept away in the flash flood waters and the rescue efforts had started. Despite all endeavors and the continued search conducted by adults, the operation on the recovery of the man was thwarted by the flood and the difficult terrain. In the spur of the moment, the young children who attend the Garavan program, suggested that they will use their small training drone to attempt to locate the missing person. They combined forces with the adults and maneuvered the drone following the flow of the flash flood. After intensive search of the territory, the missing person’s body was located and the recovery operation was successful. Understanding that their acquired knowledge of technology helped save life, made children ebullient and cognizant of the importance of their education.
Following the success of the recovery, the villagers and farmers from the area began to consult the children when their cattle or sheep went missing. In the border areas, when the cattle wander farther away from the farm, they are shot by the Azeri forces, so locating the animals is an exigency that everybody understands all too well. Now, whenever the farm animals are lost, the farmers quickly approach the young detectives and the children are only too eager to help as it serves two purposes - they get better at working with terrain and the technology and the livestock is recovered. They know, more than anybody, that their key to survival is in being resourceful and united as a nation in all their efforts.
Stories like this make us here, at Yeghounts Foundation, buoyant and proud to support them in advancing their efforts.
